Myth Drannor

A city where heroes must stop a dracolich and a sorcerer queen from using the Mythal to conquer Faerûn.

Myth Drannor is an ancient elven city that was long abandoned before events in Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. A dracolich named Pelendralaar and a sorcerer queen named Kya Mordrayn seized control of the Mythal, the ancient magic that once protected it. The cult established a new pool of radiance beneath the ruins of castle Cormanthor.

Lore & Background

The story is set in New Phlan, but the action moves to the ruins of Myth Drannor. Elminster sends Athan's band of heroes to stop Pelendralaar and Kya Mordrayn from using the power of the Mythal to expand their domination one city at a time. The Baelnorn Mirroden Silverblade reveals that the gem of the weave is still intact and in possession of the cult, who use it to control the new pool of radiance beneath castle Cormanthor.

In Their Own Story

The player's party witnesses a magical portal and hears a man crying for help. They enter the portal and arrive at the ruins of Myth Drannor. The heroes must locate the gauntlets of Moander, given by Elminster to Athan's band, and learn the correct word of power to open them. They also need the ring of calling to open the seal of Mythanthor to escape the dungeons and enter areas like Windrider Glade. After traversing catacombs and entering castle Cormanthor, they reach the pool of radiance through a magic portal. Kya Mordrayn is slain, the gem of the weave is destroyed, and Pelendralaar breaks through a cave wall into the chamber before being slain by the heroes. The gauntlets of Moander are then used to destroy the pool.

Reader's Guide

Gameplay focuses on hack and slash combat and exploring large dungeons from an isometric third-person perspective using turn-based combat. Story progression and interaction with NPCs are minimal. To succeed, players must acquire specific items: the gauntlets of Moander (requiring a word of power), the ring of calling to open Mythanthor's seal, and navigate through catacombs into castle Cormanthor.
