A dwarf warrior who forged a warhammer for a captive and raised a human daughter among his people.
Bruenor Battlehammer is a dwarf who spared Wulfgar after knocking him out during a barbarian invasion of Ten-Towns, sentencing him to five years and a day of service. During that time, Bruenor crafted the legendary warhammer Aegis-fang as a gift for Wulfgar and changed from being viewed as a slaver to a father figure by the young barbarian.

Bruenor Battlehammer fought alongside Wulfgar, Drizzt Do'Urden, Regis, and Catti-brie as one of the Companions of the Hall. He knocked Wulfgar unconscious during an invasion of Ten-Towns but spared his life, instead sentencing him to five years and a day of servitude. Bruenor worked in the forge alongside Wulfgar for those five years, crafting Aegis-fang for him. After Wulfgar completed his service, Drizzt taught Wulfgar how to fight. Bruenor led campaigns with his friends to conquer Mithral Hall and later sought a lost dwarven homeland called Gauntlgrym. He also raised Catti-brie as his adopted daughter.
In Their Own Story
The dwarf stood beside the forge, watching Wulfgar work for five years until the barbarian's view of him shifted from slaver to father. Bruenor handed over Aegis-fang, a legendary warhammer he had crafted, just before Wulfgar's sentence ended. Later, he led a campaign with Drizzt, Regis, and Catti-brie to take Mithral Hall. When news arrived that Gandalug Battlehammer had died, Bruenor resumed his reign in Mithral Hall alongside the entire clan of Icewind-Dale Battlehammer dwarves, accompanied by 500 dwarves on a trek through the Spine of the World.
