Second Sundering
Natural disasters and calamities reshaped Toril between 1484 DR and 1489 DR, reversing the effects of the Spellplague.
The Second Sundering was a cataclysmic event beginning in 1484 DR, about one hundred years after the Spellplague. It involved natural disasters such as earthquakes, vast floodings, wars, droughts, and volcanic eruptions that tore the world apart by 1489 DR. Lore & Background
The Second Sundering was equally cataclysmic to the First Sundering but occurred in recent times. Beginning in 1484 DR, the planet Toril experienced earthquakes, vast floodings, wars, droughts, and volcanic eruptions. By 1489 DR, these events had changed the world dramatically, both physically and culturally. While the Spellplague caused huge changes to the planet, the Second Sundering reversed most of them.
In Their Own Story
Between 1484 DR and 1489 DR, natural disasters flashed across Toril. Earthquakes, vast floodings, wars, droughts, and volcanic eruptions tore the world apart. This period marked a dramatic physical and cultural shift for the planet, effectively reversing most of the changes initiated by the Spellplague.
Reader's Guide
The Second Sundering began in 1484 DR with widespread natural disasters including earthquakes, floods, wars, droughts, and volcanic eruptions. These events continued until at least 1489 DR, causing dramatic physical and cultural changes to Toril that reversed most of the alterations made by the Spellplague. The event was also a multimedia project featuring six novels, an adventure series for D&D Encounters, a mobile game called Arena of War, and a comic book series titled Thieves of Calimport (though the comics were never released).
